High-performance data interchange
Full 18-track, 3480- or 3490-compatible format for data interchange comes with optimized performance with a broad range of computers. Greater storage capacity results from IBM IDRC-compatible data compression, and 3 MB/second native transfer rates add to high performance

Advanced design features
Integrated 18-channel read/write electronics permit a compact size and improved quality. The device controller and computer/device interface are also integrated. Third-generation tape-path design produces precise tape alignment and gentle tape handling.

Choosing your cartridge drive

  • Make sure your cartridges are what they appear to be.  We've seen carts labeled 3480 but have data written in 3490 or 3490e.
  • Don't forget we can convert cartridges for you.  If you just have a few cartridges this may be your best choice.
  • If you want a drive to read in oil or gas (seismic) tapes please call us because you may need a drive that can read in large blocks.
